Shakori Hills has been called a “music lovers’ paradise” and anyone who has attended one of the hundreds of festivals and events that have taken place on this little piece of heaven in Chatham County can attest to it’s magic.

The Shakori Hills Community Arts Center (SHCAC), is a 501(c) 3 non-profit who has it’s offices in the main house, acts as the steward of the 72 rolling acres located in Pittsboro, NC. The SHCAC is a volunteer run organization that is Guidestar Gold Seal certified for it’s commitment to financial transparency. The center provides music, art, and sustainability education to rural communities in Chatham, Orange, and Durham counties.

SHCAC prides itself on providing low cost / no cost to rural communities. These communities are on the edge of metropolitan growth, but have high ratio of students on free and reduced lunch, which is an indicator of the financial struggles families endure in these areas. Many of the school districts in these communities have had to cut arts and music education and SHCAC helps to fill that gap.

Pre-Covid, the main revenue driver for SHCAC were the two GrassRoots festivals held every spring and fall. Additionally, rentals of the property help enable programs such as Roots in the Schools and Junior Appalachian Musicians. Along with the cancellation of the spring and fall GrassRoots festivals, the pandemic has also forced the Hoppin’ John Fiddlers’ Convention and multiple rentals by outside groups.

In order to ensure we can maintain the land (aka: pay the mortgage) we need your help. Your donations will go directly to help pay the bills.

There are two easy ways for you to donate and they are via PayPal.me/shakorihills or ThunderTix.

You can also launch your own Facebook fundraiser to benefit Shakori Hills Community Arts Center and challenge your friends.

You may notice ThunderTix is also our ticketing system provider. They are offering arts organizations a way to raise funds during the pandemic and we thank them for this functionality.

Thank you all for your patronage over the years and for your continued support of this important arts and culture organization. It is greatly appreciated!
